Combining a rich and relatively muted tonality, a sparely decorated tied panel and a broken border of vases=sprays,this is an unusual and attractive Kashan.
The both-pairs with their accompanying flowers sprays that encircle the dark blue medallion, against the otherwise undecorated wine red field, are down with the precision and detail that such an open field scheme requires. Eight floral vase-sprays of traditional kashan appearance and naturalistic expression cross the entire border composition, and intrude decoratively into the field – a a most successful concept in this instance.The massive light blue palmettos that stand in each corner of the border provide a striking contrast with the dark blue main border of diverse rosettes in a lively and colourful arrangement. White ground minor borders green arabesques linking blue and pink rosettes are an integral part of the carpet’s appearance, with their elegantly-spaced repeat reciprocating the stylistic approach path field.
